Horror Submission Guidelines for DemonMinds
Feb. 10, 2009
Dear Horror Contributor,
NEWS: DemonMinds 2009 Edition cancelled.
Our managing editor recently lost her full-time day job. As such she will be unable to fullfil her obligations to DemonMinds. This leaves me in the position of picking up the pieces and my friends I cannot--at least I cannot this year. So, I am cancelling the 2009 Halloween edition. Please accept my sincere apologies. The loss of the 2009 edition saddens me as the submissions I reviewed were of exceptional quality. I thought it better to make a quick decision to cancel, rather than drag this into the summer then inform you of the cancellation. Your work is too important to tie up with a probable publication. Please submit your material to other publishers and when we re-open in 2010, I promise an e-mail to inform you of the event.
I anticipate accepting submissions beginning Jan 1, 2010. Please check our submission and news page for any updates on this situation. E-mail contact will be sporadic while I search for another editor, or clear my schedule so that I can take on the task again, so please be patient if you e-mail DemonMinds during 2009.
Outlets for short horror, horror art and horror poetry are disappearing at a frightening rate. So don't lose faith--keep writing, polishing and submitting. I hope to see you again in Jan 2010.
Yours,
J. P. Moore
Managing Editor, DemonMinds (yet again).

1. All tales/poems must be in either Microsoft Word format: .doc, or saved as Rich Text Format: .rtf
2. All artwork must be in the form of a .jpg file under five megs in size.
3. If you submit it, you are giving DemonMinds and its agents permission to publish your work electronically for our Fall/Halloween Edition. Your work may be removed at any time at the discretion of our editorial staff. You can also request that your work be removed from our site at any time.
4. Author of Featured tale receives a $50.00 money order/check, or gift certificate from Amazon.com. Make sure your e-mail address will accept the electronic submission of a certificate from Amazon. Featured tale is selected from submissions accepted for publication online. This author also receives one contributor copy.
4A. Artwork accepted for Cover receives a $50.00 money order/check, or a gift certificate from Amazon.com. The artist also receives one contributor copy.
4B. All tales, poems and artwork accepted for publication in our hardcover issue must be accompanied by a letter of agreement--sent to your current e-mail address when accepted for publication. If the letter of agreement isn't returned by the deadline, your work will NOT be published in our hardcover issue.
4C: Besides the Featured Tale and Cover Art, we do not pay, or compensate authors or artists. If we suddenly start making mountains of money, we will change this policy. The non-compensation includes contributor copies. Note: We do not offer contributor copies. Again, if we start making mountains of money, we will offer contributor copies.
5. Work submitted must be unpublished, or it must be noted when and where it was published in your submission letter.
6. Submission of your manuscript indicates acceptance that YOU and YOU alone are responsible for any legal ramifications of your work. You agree to indemnify DemonMinds and its agents against any, and all, legal actions resulting from its publication. Please don't
plagiarize!!
7. Don't assume that e-mail communication works all of the time. With the advent of spam and spam filters, e-mail is lost on occasion. Thus, if you haven't heard back from us, send the e-mail again, or try another account.
8. FORMATTING: Include {} surrounding text that you want italicized, and surround text you want in bold with []. For example: {This will be italicized.} or [This will be bolded.] No other formatting information is translated except line spacing. Each time you hit the enter key (the editorial hard break, not to be confused with the "I didn't get published hard break" ), one line break will be included.
9. Last but not least, don't lose your passion for writing with all of these stupid rules.
Please send submissions to: submissions@demonminds.com or demonminds@msn.com
